We Need to Talk
Let’s put down our devices.
Communicating electronically has taken over our lives. We text, we tweet, we make comments on social media. But none of it is personal. Sure, we try to connect that way, but it pales in comparison to face-to-face chats.
We all have people in our lives we can communicate with in person. But how often do we continue to stare at our phones when we’re together? That’s contributing to the isolation and loneliness that’s epidemic in our society.
Years pass quickly. We won’t remember our texts. But we will remember the smiles, laughter, and the great feelings of connecting in real life. Let’s set those devices aside—maybe just a couple times a week at first. We may find ourselves getting addicted to reality instead of pixels!
But is “unplugging” really that important?
Well, studies do verify that too much screen time leaves us feeling stressed out and alone. We sleep poorly, get up tired, and can’t do our tasks as well.
Here at OPE! I Found A Better Milk™ we’re committed to promoting face-to-face chats and really listening to each other before we respond—taking time to understand what other people are saying before we answer, and then replying with respect. Not long ago interactions were more like that.
We think they can be again. Let’s try it. We have nothing to lose, and a whole lot of well-being to gain.
